Nadia Batson is really angry; the songstress is frustrated with promoter’s lack of respect and professionalism towards artists.
In a recent blog Batson expressed her frustrations…
"Hey guys.....what's up? I'm very busy these days, finishing my songs for the carnival season 2008. I'm doing my debut album.....yeah!!!!! So that's keeping me busy. I just wanted to take the time to let you guys in on an issue I’m facing right now with some promoters.
Writing, singing and performing is my passion. I love it. It is what I have always wanted to do. I believe in it. I live it, I breathe it. With the grace and strength from God, IT IS MY LIFE. I am constantly working very hard. Always trying to improve and develop my craft. It is not just my career or a 'thing' that I happen to be good at.
Many people would view my profession as a 24 hour party, or a real glamorous job, but that, my friend, is far from the truth. Artistic people have to deal with a lot of unprofessional crap that can really be irritating and aggravating to us (artistes), especially in the Caribbean. It is unfortunate but it is true. The reason for this, goes back to that age-old misconception that if you are not in a profession that is easily acceptable by society then you won’t be respected as a professional. Sad, isn't it?
The problem that I face the most in this industry is dealing with promoters who don't respect me and respect my work. They negatively exploit artistes because of lack of respect and understanding. Not paying, not providing requirements listed in the contracts..... I can’t even go into details about all of the issues that artistes face with certain promoters....lord!! It's waaayyyyyyy to much to mention, but my point will always be "IF YOU DONT RESPECT ME, THEN DONT HIRE ME". It's simple.
I perform for you, the people, my fans. You spend your money to come see me perform so it is very unfair for you to not get your moneys' worth. Sometimes, all the madness that happens backstage can really twist my mood. It is frustrating to deal with unprofessional promoters. Geezzzzz!!! Now these problems dont occur in every instance. There are a few promoters who are really efficient and fantastic to work with. I applaude them. They know how to treat artistes and make a genuine effort to fulfill their end of the bargain. Thank the Lord for them..."
Batson ended by thanking her fans for allowing her to vent and made the promise to never let them down. _________________
